February 2007 News Archive

February 26, 2007: Better late than never. Grand Forks, and the entire state of Minnesota for that matter, got its first major snowstorm of the season. I estimate that Grand Forks got between 6-9 inches of snow, which is over half of the total amount of snow we have received all season. Winona tops the snow totals with 29.5 inches over the weekend storm. Photos from the Grand Forks side of the snowstorm will soon be up in the snowstorms photo gallery. In web site news, I finally figured out how to stream my weather videos!! I spent most of the day today converting the videos to flash format and rewriting the video pages. Check them out!!

-Create Site Map page

February 19, 2007: The transition over to new web pages continues fairly smoothly. Four out of the six photo gallery pages have been moved over to the new system and the other two (Clouds and Nature) should follow shortly. Due to school, the transition may take several weeks to complete. Here is a list of known errors in the site due to the transition and the tasks that remain to be completed:

-No pages in Live Weather (need to be built)
-Storm Chasing Link does not work (page needs to be built)
-All of the photo galleries contain old code in the header that links to pages that no longer exist. I need to write a new header in the coming days and update all of the gallery pages
-The weather downloads page needs to be moved over the new HTML format soon
-Lightning Photography page needs to be built
-Site Map is currently under construction
-Soon the site counter will only exist on the main homepage

February 18, 2007: The web site is currently undergoing another, albeit the last, major overhaul. With Microsoft Office Live planning on reconfiguring their web editors, I decided today to completely abandon all of the pages I designed on those editors in favor of my Dreamweaver pages. I spent the whole day today drafting a new look for the site, and wrote four new pages. The old pages will remain up, but will contain a script that will automatically forward one to my new pages. It may take several weeks for the move to be complete.

February 8, 2007: PLEASE NOTE!!: Soon, Microsoft Office Live will be upgrading the web site program that I use to run this site. As a result, there may be several areas of the site that won't work or will look different. I will try my hardest to correct any problems that arise with the site as soon as I can. I will post news of any problems with the site on this page.

February 8, 2007: The weather up in Grand Forks continues to remain bitterly cold after last week's arctic air blast. The temperatures have no risen above 0 since 6pm on Friday, February 2. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel as temperatures are expected to rise above 10 degrees by the beginning of next week. And still no snow in sight. Here are the highs and lows since last friday. These do not include windchill, which at one point neared -50 F:

Fri., Feb. 2: High 3 Low -19
Sat., Feb. 3: High -10 Low -26
Sun., Feb. 4: High -10 Low -29 (record low)

February 3, 2007: After several days of hard work, there are finally several new items on the site. In the photo gallery, I have updated all of the galleries with current photos and created the halo and tangential arc pages. I also fixed the linking problem in the winter landscape gallery. And after a three month delay, the Unique Weather section of the site is up and running. I am currently working on the Lightning Photography report, and that should be up sometime in the near future, thus completing the Weather Info section of the site. Here is a list of the items left to be completed in this reconstruction:
-Finish photo gallery (30 galleries remaining)
-Finish Lightning Photography report
-Create the different web pages for the Live Midwest Weather section
