June 2007 News Archive

June 27, 2007: Well, work on the site progresses very slowly but surely. I have the homepage basically done and I am working on touching up the about me page. I am also looking into creating special page templates for each type of page. This will save me time in the long run, but for now will slow any chase logs I try to push out. The On the Prowl section has been updated with images/video of the June 20, 2007 storm outbreak. Check them out!!

June 24, 2007: Well, I'm at it again. Yes, it is another web site revision. I'm aiming at streamlining the site even more along with making some parts more accessible. Today I went after the homepage, moving sections around, creating a new banner, making the page selections at the top of the page smaller, and left justifying the entire page (it used to be centered).I also will put a flash image on this page which cycles through various images and photos. In the long run I hope to enhance the storm chasing, about/contact, and weather photo pages, along with touch-ups on everything else. In other news, the weather in the Twin Cities is about average for this time of year, hot and sticky. I just finished installing a new Davis Vantage Pro 2 Wireless weather station on the roof of my house, which I hope will provide years of service (and not get destroyed in a hailstorm like the previous station). I am also starting on the June 20 chase log after working all yesterday on the 15 minute video. When it will be done is anyone's guess.

June 21, 2007: WHEW!! It's been quite a ride these past 24 hours. I intercepted the Isanti/Chisago County storm yesterday afternoon, however, I ended up on the weaker southern side of the cell and decided to forgo the chase shortly after reaching the storm. I decided to take the evening easy and went out to the high school to take some photos of the southern storms. Little did I know that I would go through three hundred photos and one hundred minutes of video as line after line of storms rolled overhead. The sunset colored storms were STUNNING!!! Heading into work at 5:30 this morning the line of storms along the stationary front was still to the distant south, sporting a massive classical thunderhead. I took 25 panoramic photos of the cell before it moved away. I am still post processing the photos (many are in RAW format) and importing video. A chase log MAY be up by the end of the weekend. It will be a long one. The June 2 chase log is suspended until this new log is over.

June 16, 2007: Had a great pair of lightning storms roll through this past night. The lightning photos are in the lightning photo gallery and a chase log is up for last night. The "On the Prowl" gallery has been updated with a new photo. I am still working on the June 2 chase log.

June 7, 2007: Well, so much for any chase today. Today's storms exploded in western WI and raced NE at almost 60mph. I decided to abandon any chase since I would be playing catch-up with any storm I managed to reach. Oh well, I'll continue to update the site. . .

The chase log for May 27 is complete, and I am starting work on the June 2 log. There will not be any log for the storms today.

June 4, 2007: I have raised the storm chase probability based on the severe weather predictions for this coming Wednesday night. Unfortunately I won't be able to head over to the mod. risk area due to other plans that afternoon, but I will be ready to pounce if any storms do make it near the Twin Cities. I have also identified a possible problem with the website where some of the images (mainly the main title banner and the 3/24/07 chase log photos) will not load. This has only been observed on my PC CRT monitor, but I have not found a solution to this problem.

June 3, 2007: UPDATE The chase log for May 23 has been completed. An additional storm chaser has confirmed that I photographed a non-rotating wall cloud yesterday afternoon.

June 3, 2007: Now that I'm back home I can finally start ramping out the updates for the site. The chase logs for May 23 and 27 are still being worked on. I went storm spotting yesterday afternoon and may have photographed a wall cloud. I'm still waiting for confirmation of this. A preliminary chase log for yesterday is online, but it only has photos of the wall cloud and none of the storm system itself.
