This is a set of guidelines that I live by on my storm chases. Some are serious while others are a result of me making stupid mistakes. This list may be short now, but I will add more as I learn more about this fine art :-)
-Always carry your trusty NOAA Weather Radio
-Make sure you have a VERY detailed map of the area you plan to chase
-Carry a first aid kit in your car
-Make sure you have an extra set of batteries for your camera at all times--for me I have eight extra sets
-Carry a cell phone with you at all times and make sure someone knows where you plan to go chasing.
-Bring backup cameras and camcorders--nature has a cruel way of wrecking equipment
-Insect repellent = good idea
-Fill up on gas BEFORE the chase. There aren't many gas stations in no-man's land.
Below are a series of photos of my somewhat primitive storm chasing setup in my car, showing my dash camera and weather radio configuration.
