Waiting on the Hill: Storm Chase Bust

Duluth, MNI spent the afternoon watching the radar at the NWS in Duluth as a severe storm system developed over the Dakotas and moved into MN. The storms maintained their strength into the late afternoon, and as the complex moved into the Brainerd area I moved to Skyline Parkway on top of the hill in Duluth to wait for the storm. The hill provided a great view of the anvil to the east (photos below), but as the sun light faded, I noted that there was no lightning coming from the anvil. I called Dan, and after having him tell me that the storm was weakening rapidly on radar, decided to pull out and head back to my dorm room at UMD. The storm never made it to Duluth.
