Welcome to my weather web site!! My name is Kevin Skow, a freelance weather photographer and videophotographer from the northern suburbs of Minneapolis, MN. I graduated in 2009 from the University of North Dakota with a degree in atmospheric sciences and currently work as an intern meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Des Moines, IA. I have had a passion for the weather ever since my early childhood and been photographing every conceivable weather phenomenon for almost fifteen years.

This site showcases my best photos and videos in addition to my storm chasing stories and experiences. It is also intended to serve as a platform for storm chasers and the general public alike to access free live weather data for the Upper Midwest. Feel free to contact me with questions regarding this site or anything else relating to the weather. For more information on the site or me, see the About/Contact page. Enjoy!!

Chase Logs has returned!! I will be moving to Iowa just in time for the severe weather season.

If I'm not issuing warnings or tracking storms on radar, I'll be out in the field pursing these beasts! For Chase Logs from previous years, please visit the Storm Chasing Page

Case studies of various storms I have witnessed throughout my life using archived weather charts, upper air observations, radar/satellite data, photographs, storm reports, media stories, and my own personal accounts. I will not only cover storms that occurred prior to 2006 (when I began writing Chase Logs), but reanalyze more recent events using new data.

A Severe Weather Climatology Comparison Between the Grand Forks, ND and Duluth, MN National Weather Service Forecast Office County Warning Areas (8.59mb)

In May of 2009, I completed my senior project that is required of all atmospheric science undergraduates graduating from the University of North Dakota. My project entailed constructing a severe weather climatology for the County Warning Areas of the Duluth and Grand Forks National Weather Service forecast offices. The results of this project were provided to both forecast offices to help aid in their understanding of local severe weather patterns.
